What's it all about, really?

I've spent the past 3 days at James Randi's Amaz!ng Meeting in Las Vegas. We went last year and this year's turnout was even bigger and better. But one of the first things I noticed was that of the 800+ attendees, there were maybe 15 people who were minorities - Asian, African-American, Latinos and Indians are not at all represented. It got me wondering why that is and although I can't really speak to the other minorities, I think that the Indian community in this country tends to be pretty closed off, socially at least. But there's a huge population of young "ABCDs" (American-Born Confused Desis) who have lived their lives in the United States and who probably are skeptics, maybe without really realizing it.

So, my mission with this site is pretty simple. Next year at TAM, I want to get more minorities to show up. And I'm curious to find out what's out there in terms of organizations and people who deal with skepticism particularly around India and Indian issues.

I don't really know where this is going to go. I really want to do something and this seems like a quick and easy way to start. I'm going to use this blog as a way to track my progress and learnings and to make notes about things I'd like to investigate. So, that being said, here goes nothing...
