Well I haven't had a whole lot of time this week but I've made surprising progress. I've found a few folks who are willing to be guest bloggers on the site - I think that will help keep information fresh. I've also got a few folks who are willing to promote the site - that's very cool. I'm eager to get to the point where I can get lots of commentary on the blogs and start conversations in that way. So, before I go any further, here are the folks who are going to be guest blogging with us:
Mithun Kumar - http://www.indianskeptic.com - Mithun is in India and has been blogging about this topic for a long time. I'm excited to get his perspective.
Hemant Mehta - http://www.friendlyatheist.com - Hemant is best known for 'selling his soul on Ebay' :) He's also got a blog and is very involved with the Secular Student Alliance. He tends to have his finger on the pulse of secular challenges in American politics.
Reggie Finley - http://www.infidelguy.com - Reggie has been doing an amazing show called The Infidel Guy for many years out of Atlanta. He's recently changed his format a bit to The Debate Hour. He's going to have some awesome perspectives for us, if he can find the time!
Christian Walters - http://www.cluckingbell.com - Christian is a brilliant, funny and extremely talented writer. He was also smart enough to marry me 8 years ago :)
And, of course, me. I'm just here to learn, really. I feel like I'm going to be walking with giants!
I've been struggling a little bit with what this site is really about. How much do I want to focus on India, as opposed to general issues around skepticism? I definitely want to generate interest from the Indian community and I think there is a lot of opportunity to look at the various myths and mythology in Indian culture. At first, I thought, well, I should probably stay away from religion - let's ease into it. But I am not sure that's possible - I think that so many of the common myths and issues in India are tightly related to religion. So I guess we'll tread lightly and see what happens.
I should be clear - I'm an atheist but this site isn't really about atheism. I'm not looking to convert anyone. I'm just looking to try to get people thinking about their beliefs, the things that they take for granted and to have reasonable discussions about those things.
I'm going to end up with a fatwa on my head, aren't I?
Oh well...
Other stuff I've done for the site:
- I've added a mailing list sign up. At this point, I think I'll just use it to publish when new blog entries are added but in the future, I'd like to do a newsletter or something on a regular basis.
- I've registered on Technorati and started collecting hit counts. Now to get some traffic to the site!
If you are interested, link to my site, please! And join the mailing list - who knows what cool stuff will come through eventually. Email me with questions - my contact information is to the right.
Good luck to us all!
